Program Overview
At A Bridge to Achievement, we value the strengths and preferences of our learners, while also understanding the unique challenges faced by children and teenagers with developmental and autism spectrum disorders, especially in social interactions.
We are proud to launch our social skills program designed to nurture essential social competencies in a supportive and structured environment. This program caters to social skills for children and teenagers with autism, providing structured opportunities for participants to engage in meaningful social interactions.
Program Structure and Benefits
Our program groups participants based on developmental appropriateness, age, and shared interests, ensuring compatibility and cohesion within each group.
With at least three other peers in each group, the program is structured to maximize opportunities for forming meaningful friendships while addressing autism and social interaction needs.
Each session is tailored to help participants develop a wide array of social skills, ranging from basic play interactions and developing social motivation to complex social behaviors like conflict resolution and self-advocacy.
Comprehensive Social Skills Assessment and Individualized Planning
Each participant begins with a detailed social skills assessment conducted by a certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This assessment informs the creation of a personalized plan targeting key areas such as:
- Early social responding and social motivation/initiation
- Toy play, leisure activities, and social play
- Group learning dynamics and teamwork
- Developing adaptability, flexibility, and sportsmanship
- Self-regulation, emotional management, and nonverbal communication
- Advanced skills in speaking, listening, perspective taking, and conflict resolution
- Nurturing friendships and relationships
ABA Therapy Integration
Our social skills program incorporates ABA therapy for communication skills, crucial for teaching effective interaction techniques and enhancing both verbal and nonverbal communication. This focus prepares our learners to navigate various social situations with confidence and skill.
Schedule and Commitment
Groups are held in the afternoons, with each participant receiving 10 hours of focused therapy per week. This structured approach ensures consistent and significant progress in a nurturing environment.
